Dear Homeschooler,

There are only 65 days till Christmas — at least that is what my Facebook feed keeps telling me. Although I am definitely not ready to deal with that yet, a reality I can’t ignore is that we only have 8 weeks left of this semester until Christmas break. It seems the closer we get to break harder it is keep focused — and I’m not just talking about the kids…. 🙂 So, I try to “Christmas up” as much of our schoolwork as possible. We count candy canes in Math, make ginerbread houses in Art, and listen to Christmas stories in Literacy. That is why I was excited to preview The Familyman’s Christmas Treasury – Audio Collection from The Familyman (Also available as Digital Downloads) in anticipation of the upcoming holidays.

Our Favorite Stories

Cootie McKay’s Nativity

The town’s nativity has been destroyed. Unable to spend a lot of money, the town commissions Cootie, a local recluse who makes art out of recycled items, to create the new nativity. Cootie not only learns about the birth of Christ but also his life, death, and resurrection, which changes his life. The town awaits anxiously as Cootie secretly works on the nativity, but all fears are pushed aside when they see what Cootie has created.

Gladys Remembers Christmas

Gladys doesn’t have fond memories of Christmas time. Ever since her mother died when she was a child, her father stopped celebrating Christmas and became ever-increasingly distant. Now that her father is moving into a nursing home, she has to clean out the house. Gladys discovers the attic is full of old Christmas decorations, and memories of her mother and happy Christmases come flooding back and change her heart toward the holidays.

It’s Called Christmas

We receive a very important transmission from the future. Christmas as we know it has been eradicated. We are told how this happened and commissioned to prevent it by remembering and sharing the true meaning of Christmas.

The Secret of Snow Village

Katherine is usually caught up in the Christmas hustle … until Christmas Eve, that is. She yearns for the peacefulness of the small snow village in her Grandmother’s living room more than the gifts under the tree. That night, she unexpectedly visits the little snow village and finds out it’s secret: He, who is Everlasting Peace.

My Opinion

The stories were well-read and captivated the children’s attention.

Stories On-The-Go

The MP3 format was very handy. Anytime we had a few minutes, we were able to pull out my phone and listen to a story. Driving in the car doesn’t have to be wasted time. 🙂

Holiday-Themed

These fun stories are perfect for getting into the holiday spirit.

True Meaning of Christmas

It’s refreshing to hear Christmas stories that are not focused on the materialistic aspects of Christmas. Hey, I like the tree, the stockings, and the gifts as much as anyone, but the concepts of love, generosity, and peace that are core themes through these stories are a great balance.

Have you listened to any of stories from The Familyman’s Christmas Treasury? I’d love to hear about it in the comments below.

Till Next Time,

Jennifer
