We love audio books. We listen to them on trips, when we are traveling in the car, and when we play with Legos or color. We especially love the Extraordinary Adventures of G.A. Henty, and that is why we jumped at the chance to review The Cat of Bubastes by Heirloom Audio Productions. This particular story was timely as we are studying ancient history this year and just finished studying ancient Egypt.
The quality of the audio production is a reflection of a great cast and crew. As always, Heirloom Audio Productions provides a top-notch cast such as John Rhys-Davies and Brian Blessed to name a few.
The Story: The Cat of Bubastes
Follow the journey of the young prince Amuba and his protector Jethro. Enslaved by the Egyptian army, Amuba and Jethro find themselves in the house of the high priest Ameres, whose kindness has earned him great respect among all peoples in Egypt. As companions to Ameres’ children Chebron and Mysa, Amuba and Jethro become not only entrusted servents but close confidants and friends. Treason, scandal, and murder ensue keeping you on the edge of your seat.
Living in the house of the high priest, Amuba and Jethro are exposed to the religious culture of the ancient Egyptians. As the story progresses, Ameres’ seeking of the truth brings him in contact with the Isrealites and their One True God. Convinced of the reality of the One True God and the falsity of his own Egyptian gods, Ameres shares his findings with Amuba, Jethro, Chebron, and Mysa, ultimately converting them to the truth.

Learn about history and see God’s guiding hand through articles and lessons.
We really enjoyed Heirloom Audio Production’s The Cat of Bubastes. The story was captivating and the production from the voices and dialogue to the music and sound effects was amazing.
I really appreciated the overarching theme: God’s guiding hand can be seen in history. Studying history retrospectively, we can see a bigger picture and a bigger plan. This gives hope and comfort that He will continue to guide and protect in our own time and in our own lives.
The extra features, particularly the Study Guide, are very helpful to teaching students. I was able to work on comprehension and Egyptian culture without devoting a lot of my planning time.
