Jolly Phonics

The Jolly Phonics Teacher’s Book equips you with everything you need to know to start teaching your student to read. In the introduction, you will find detailed information on how to introduce letter sounds, how to correctly teach letter formation, how to help kids learn to blend sounds and identify the sounds in words, and ways to teach those tricky, non-phonetic words. From there, you’ll find daily lessons and  instructions to work through the Jolly Phonics Workbooks one, two, and three.

In Jolly Phonics Student Book 1, students learn the main 42 sounds of the English language and how to read and spell 12 tricky words. In Jolly Phonics Student Book 2, students work on increasing their reading and writing fluency and acquiring alternative spellings for the sounds they learned in Book 1. In Jolly Phonics Student Book 3, students continue to work on alternative spelling for sounds, learn more tricky words, and increase their comprehension and writing skills.

Jolly Songs is a fun book that provides a little song for each sound. Each song also has a little hand movement, using movement to help the child remember the song. Ideas for additional games and other activities are listed in the back.

The Next Level: Jolly Grammar

Once the student has worked through all three Jolly Phonics workbooks, they are ready for the Jolly Grammar 1 Student Workbook. The Jolly Grammar 1 Teacher’s Book is divided into two parts. The first part outlines the program and educates on the specific teaching method of Jolly Grammar. The second part contains the daily lesson plans and corresponding activities in the Jolly Phonics Grammar 1 Student Workbook. This course focuses on spelling, grammar, vocabulary, and reading and comprehension skills. Doing two lessons a week, this book has 36 weeks of lessons and is designed to be used alongside a literacy program that will teach those areas of in-depth comprehension skills, group and individual reading, writing, etc. not covered by Jolly Grammar.

Reading from the Word Bank

In less than two weeks of lessons,  my daughter was reading words. She was so excited. Watch her reading words from the Word Bank!

My Opinion

Short Lessons

The lessons are short and succinct. My daughter was never overwhelmed always ended the lesson wanting to do more.

Reading Words Quickly

I love how Jolly Literacy teaches sounds in a particular order that within 3 lessons, the children can start reading words. This provides meaning to learning letter sounds.

Colorful and Engaging

The workbook is so colorful and fun. My daughter loved to do it. The songs captured her attention and helped her remember the letter sounds. She sings them all day long!

Multi-Sensory Approach

I love how each sound targets visual, auditory, and kinetic learning styles.
