Do your kids love painting as much as mine do? And do you dislike the mess it makes as much as I do? We’ve been given the opportunity to review Kwik Stix 12 pk, a mess-free alternative to traditional painting, by The Pencil Grip, Inc., and I got to say, we are loving it!
The Product: Kwik Stix 12 pk
Kwik Stix 12 pk is a box containing 12 bright, colorful tempera paints in containers that look like glue sticks. This form makes them great for small hands to handle as well as for quick access and clean up. Just pop the lid off and your little one is ready to paint. No water (and thus no water spills) and no paint brushes to clean. When you are done, just pop the lid back on. Done!
The Kwik Stix 12 pk is non-toxic, so you don’t have to worry if your toddler sticks it in their mouth (because you know they will!) And the absolute best part is that this paint dries in 90 seconds. Yes, you can close the coloring book by the time you get everything else picked up.
Kwik Stix 12 pk is not just for younger students. Older students can still experiment mixing different colors, shading, a trying different lines depending on the angle of the paint stick.
How We Used Kwik Stix 12 pk
My preschooler really fell in love with the Kwik Stix 12 pk, so I tried to incorporate them into her school lessons as much as I could. Here are some of the way we used them in our school day:
- Coloring her All About Reading Letter Sheets
- Copying her alphabet
- Copying her name
- Completing a patterning sequence
- Drawing a given number of objects
- Drawing the number for a given number of objects
- Drawing facial features
- Coloring by number/letter worksheets
- Creative Coloring
My first grader liked painting with the Kwik Stix 12 pk, too. He loved being creative and making his own masterpieces. I was able to incorporate these paints into some of his lessons. We used them mostly in our History/Geography content unit study. We were studying Native Americans at the time, so we used them to draw the different clothes and tools of the different tribes. We also used them to coloring in our Native American Dwellings Coloring Book by Dover.
I admit I was a little skeptical — not because I didn’t think this was going to be a fun and engaging product but because I wasn’t convinced that the end product would look like paint. I thought it was going to look like colored glue. Boy, was I wrong. The texture and look is that of tempura paint.
We were able to incorporate the Kwik Stix 12pk in many of our school lessons. The mess-free design of these paints made them extremely portable. We were able to bring them along to the coffee shop and library, and I didn’t have to worry about them making an inappropriate mess. The quick drying time also let us pack up our creations without ruining them.
These Kwik Stix 12 pk was a simple way to increase fun, creativity, and engagement in our school day, and I would highly recommend them.
