Roll ‘Em

under constructionPresentation skills are an important part of any curriculum. Being able to demonstrate understanding or mastery of something and present it in a clear and organized way is a skill that not only builds confidence but also prepares our students for success in college and the workforce. Expanding the traditional idea of a ‘Show and Tell’ to make it functional for all grade levels, I aim to provide an audience to fellow homeschooled students to practice these skills.

imageYounger students, for example, may pick their favorite book, recent art creation, or favorite pet to ‘show and tell’. Challenge them to really think about their choice:

  • Why did you pick that? Why do you like it?
  • Why did you draw this picture? How does it make you feel?
  • What do you do with your pet? Tell how you take care of him? etc.

Older students may choose to do reports on books, share special projects (i.e. tigers, digestion, etc), perform experiments, explain processes (i.e. following a recipe), give speeches, defend ideas, do a reading, perform Q&As, conduct interviews, share original work, perform a dance, play an instrument, write or perform in a drama, present creative projects, etc. The possibilities are endless!

So, sit back, relax, and press ‘play’ to watch some awesome student presentations!
