I am always on the hunt for good novels for my third grader to read. As I browse the library shelves full of Captain Underpants and Spongebob, I wish for an age-appropriate storyline that doesn’t involve underwear. I was so happy to have the opportunity to review two books in The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls by Worthy Kids/Ideals.
The arching storyline is that two siblings Peter and Mary and their dog Hank have stumbled across some powerful scroll. When they break the seal of one, they are immediately transported back in time to some event in the Bible and get to witness it firsthand. Here’s the catch: they have to solve the scroll’s clues in a certain amount of time or they won’t be able to go home, stuck forever in the wrong time period.
The books are easy, quick reads — about 14 short chapters. I had ZooKid read them independently, so this is what he had to say about them:
The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls: The Beginning (Book #1)
For the first book, I had him to a visual book report:
I let him read the second one for fun and then interviewed him. Check out his responses:
So, there you have it! Two thumbs up from ZooKid! Have you or your students read any of the books in the Hidden Scrolls Series? I’d love to hear about it in the comments below.
Till Next Time,
